The two are located just above the start/finish line for the weekly racing

One of the bonuses for Brandon Ward winning the Market USA 100 lap Modified race this past Saturday was what it did to the points’ race.

Burt Myers struggled to a 15th-place finish thanks to a blown transmission, and Myers’ points lead is now just 30 over Ward, the defending champion, and Chris Fleming.

“We’ll count those points up,” Ward said in Victory Lane after his third win of the season.

When Saturday started, Myers had a 54-point lead on Fleming.

“We’ll bounce back,” Myers said. “Like I said, the points don’t bother me. It’s the fact that we had that race won and then had something break and it was taken away from us. We’ll get it fixed and be back next week.”

In the Sportsman Division Zack Ore leads defending champion Chase Robertson by just four points. It’s the closest points race out of the four divisions with Sterling Plemmons in third.

The Sportsman Division will have the featured race this Saturday with the Peanut Patch Sportsman 100-lap event. The 100 lappers in the Sportsman are usually a war of attrition as to which drivers actually have cars that are running at all at the end of the race.

In the Street Stock, Christian Joyce leads Brad Lewis by 34 points with eight weeks of racing left in the season.

A.J. Sanders, the two-time defending champion in the Stadium Stock Division, has a 40-point lead on red-hot Tyler McDonald with Chuck Wall and Brad Mickalowski tied for third, a distant 88 points behind.

Lights should be fixed

For two weeks in row, a bank of lights at Bowman Gray Stadium was not working.

The bank of lights that was out was just before Turn 3, leaving that part of the stadium dimly light.

Ben Rowe, the assistant city manager for Winston-Salem, said he hopes the lights will be working for this week’s racing.

“The city had an electrical contractor inspect the equipment after the first outage and make a repair,” Rowe said in an e-mail. “However, when the lights were powered up this past Saturday, another failure occurred.”

The city of Winston-Salem owns Bowman Gray Stadium and leases the weekly racing series to NASCAR and for Winston-Salem State football games in the fall.

“The electrical contractor is scheduled to be on site this week,” Rowe said. “We hope to have the issues addressed as soon as possible.”

Driver Jason Myers said he noticed a difference two weeks ago when the lights were out.

“The first week they were out it was just a little spooky,” he said. “This (past) week I didn’t notice until the race started.”
