I would describe Fort Smith as a small city, too big to be a small town and too small to be a big city. It's a quaint place to live. Sometimes I tour and take pictures of the beautiful artwork displayed on the side of buildings, all throughout the downtown area. When I need something good to eat there are nice, friendly, and delicious local restaurants to eat at. When I need fresh air I can go to the multiple local parks that have walking paths. When I need entertainment fort smith has a multitude of open mics, museums, clubs, and even a water park that I can go to. One of the best things about Fort Smith is that it is small enough for me to come across someone that I know, so it feels like a big neighborhood. It really is a nice place to live.

Fort smith probably does have a high crime rate as I’ve read in previous reviews, but I doubt it’s because there is a huge amount of actual crime. The drug issue is bad here, the treatment available to people in addition is a joke here for sure.
The main reason for the mentioned crime rate is due to this area being populated with a mix of people either with substance abuse issues, or the opposite kind of people who are hyper religious, extremely conservative, and judgmental. The law enforcement agencies here and in neighboring cities, arrest whoever they want for ridiculous reasons and prosecute those people to an inhumane degree. In doing so , they cause that person (usually suffering from addiction) to struggle further as there are no jobs, housing or support for anyone with a criminal record here. It literally creates poverty.

My overall experience with Fort Smith is that it is a nice town to live in, cheap and there is a lot of variety in food and people. I am currently attending college at the school located in Fort Smith called The University of Arkansas- Fort Smith which is a huge plus living here. The commute to and from school is great, as well as to my work which is also located in Fort Smith. So there is job opportunities in Fort Smith as well which is great.
