Past years dropped players into a College Football Playoff Game or most recently into year five of your NFL career with a one-year "prove it" contract at a team of your choosing. Madden 24 Superstar Mode revives the rookie feel with a change, as you can either allow the NFL Draft to dictate your landing spot or tell the game where you'd like to go as you create a new save.
You can have up to five active Superstar Mode saves going in Madden 24, but the catch is that you can only have one going per position. With such different playing styles and experiences, you'll have to consider where the best place to start will be for you.
What is the best position and team to choose?
Right out of the gate, you'll need to decide if you want to play as a quarterback, running back, wide receiver, linebacker, or cornerback. Not only will these positions give you vastly different in-game playing styles, but they'll come with different practice drills and goals throughout each season.
If you're worried about getting benched if you choose a team that already has your position on lock, rest assured that it seems basically impossible to get yanked off the field in the regular season. Even if you're Scrubs McGee, the most abysmal quarterback in history who runs out the back of the endzone causing a safety on every single play for the Buffalo Bills while future Hall of Fame quarterback Josh Allen sits on the sidelines, the game is happy to let you keep on sucking.
This means that it really comes down to preference and just how challenging you want Superstar Mode to become. Picking your favorite team is always a safe bet, but some players may prefer to go with a team best suited to their position. Quarterbacks and running backs are best off with any team that has a strong offensive line, such as the Kansas City Chiefs or Philadelphia Eagles.
Wide receivers are best on a team with a reliable quarterback, so landing spots like the Buffalo Bills, Kansas City Chiefs, or Baltimore Ravens are safe bets. As for cornerbacks and linebackers, choosing a team with an already stout defense like the Dallas Cowboys, San Francisco 49ers, or Philadelphia Eagles are great choices. Ultimately, make sure you're with a team you'll enjoy playing with long-term.
NFL Combine Challenges and Combine Interview
Once you've decided what kind of Superstar Mode you want, it'll be time to take on the NFL Combine. It's been several years since the NFL Combine was in this franchise, but Madden 24 has brought it back in a great way. This kicks off with a series of minigames to test your player's skills.
Don't worry too much about nailing each of these minigames on your first try, as you'll be able to test out the controls and hit retry if you aren't satisfied with your outcome. If you used "Choose Team" while creating your save, poor performance here won't break that but will affect roughly when you're drafted by that team. After going through the minigames and drills, it's time to test your knowledge.
The Combine Interview isn't required, but doing well on it has a good chance at boosting your draft stock and getting you closer to those high first round draft rankings. Your base NFL trivia knowledge may be able to handle it without issue, but there's no option to repeat the Combine Interview. Weekly Activites, Setting Goals, and Upgrading Your Player
Once you're on a team and the season is underway, it's time to really get into the meat of Superstar Mode. Weekly Activities are back once again, and you'll have varied options each week depending on how the NFL Schedule positions your games. As a general rule, it's best not to skip any Weekly Activities. Take advantage of the easy in-game boosts whenever possible, and snag as much extra XP and Cred as you can on a weekly basis.
Early in the season, and occasionally during games themselves, you'll also be tasked with setting goals that can give you major XP boosts if they are fulfilled. If you want to ensure success, lower the difficulty a bit and increase the quarter length. This will give you plenty of extra time to rack up the necessary numbers for a season goal. It's not uncommon on low difficulties to blast through a season goal early if you're playing well.
Earning XP will slowly unlock new Skill Points and along with these upgrades you'll gain access to Superstar and X-Factor abilities. Make sure to check your player each week to ensure available Skill Points have been spent, unless you're saving them for an upgrade that requires more than you currently have banked.
How to Join the 99 Club in Madden 24 Superstar Mode
Now that you've got the basics down, it's time to shoot for the stars. While some of the early stages of Madden 24 Superstar Mode will come down to familiarizing yourself with the system and knowing how to best tackle things on a weekly basis, nothing matters more than the actual games themselves.
Ultimately, you'll want to just focus on improving your skills at your position and balling out whenever you have the opportunity. With a four-year rookie contract out of the gate, you don't have to think about free agency or trades and can instead focus on just playing football.
Exactly how long it'll take you to turn that success into a 99 Club eligible player can vary, but it'll probably take you at least two or three seasons of success before your Madden 24 Superstar Mode player hits that upper echelon.
